Antarctica

Antarctic Cruise Departs Sydney 11th February 2011

20 Days / 19 Nights ~ departs 11/FEB/2011

The coming summer 2010/11 cruise season will be the last time large ships can visit Antarctica, due to the new laws banning vessels carrying heavy fuels taking effect in August 2011.

After the ban, put forward by the International Maritime Organisation, only vessels using light fuels and carrying less than 500 passengers will be able to enter Antarctica, in the interest of preserving the fragile marine environment of the region. This will effectively spell the end of larger cruise ships entering Antarctic waters.
